Once again I have been motivated to become a better dental radiographer. The A.A.D.M.R.T. conference in Phoenix this month was truly inspirational. As Dr. Scott Ganz put it, "It?s not the scan, it?s the plan." Now that most of the imaging labs are using CBCT it is now up to us clinicians to provide the doctors with the information to make the best plan. We are no longer giving our referrring doctors flat 2 dimensional images but are extracting from the cone beam volumes the images we feel best will suit their plan. This requires knowledge of anatomy that I have not received formal training on. I think many of us are opening the text books again to revisit maxillofacial structures. We are also learning about and in search of new software that can enhance these scans and optimize their diagnostic value. The doctors at the conference inspired me to work harder at providing the best in 3 dimensional imaging.
