The human touch is a powerful force. Most people do not receive the opportunity that my job as an x-ray technician allows. I am able to, and many times need to, touch the patient. Whether I am brushing the hair back off the shoulders for a photograph, or touching the face to place the patient in the ear rods, I share a lot of human touch. I also allow touch to reassure the patient and to give positive energy.
Being of the female persuasion, I believe that I am permitted a bit more of the touching without cause for alarm or discomfort from the patient. My male co-workers try to avoid doing too much touching, another man might find this uncomfortable and women might take it as an alternative gesture. I, on the other hand, can touch both sexes without various feelings from the patient. I am seen more as the mother figure and it is acceptable. As a result, I feel honored and lucky I may share positive touch and feeling with people. It is just one more reason why I enjoy my job so much. Many people in todays work force are not afforded with this priviledge.
The human touch is something that people need on a regular basis, and is a blessing to all of us.
