Wow, for a while here in California the weather has been so vast that I wasn't sure if I should call this edition Winter, Spring or Summer. We went from 90 degrees in March to pouring down rain. I didn't know if I should turn on my air conditioner or crank up the heat. Actually some days I did both. Heat in the morning and air in the afternoon. Finally, I believe that summer is here. We dusted off our ski boat and took it out for the first time in late June. We use to get it out on the lake in March!
I have been reading over Matt Kroona's article "Going Digital" that he submitted for this issue of the "Currents". I am happy to say that I have taken a very similar path in my office "Going Digital" I recently purchased a Digital Pan/Ceph machine. I had taken good notes at our last Fall Convention in Portland, Or. when the local Sullivan/Schein representative and speaker Mike Corcoran spoke on the differences of Indirect Vs. Direct Digital x-rays. He expressed that the direct digital for the Pan/Ceph units gave a higher quality image than the indirect, but for the intra-oral images the phosphorous plates produced a very high quality image. Since I purchased the digital Pan/Ceph unit, I have received many positive responses from my referring doctors. I am really happy with my decision. I can't imaging turning back at this time.
However, since this purchase was costly, I still have to make that last and final attempt to be digitally complete. I believe I will be looking into an indirect intra-oral system. After discussing the differences with one of my referring doctors, he expressed that the indirect would be more ideal for him because he prefers to see his bitewings in full contact.
All in due time! I am still waiting for this economy to turn around. Business is still slow. But I am trying to forge through. I love what I do and I hope to still be here in the end. If I go out, I'm going to go out in style.
